TTC Broodmare Update: Sacre Coeur

27th April 2018

We are pleased to report that TTC Broodmare Sacre Coeur and her foal have progressed nicely throughout the spring, meaning the filly foal, by first season sire Twilight Son, is now strong enough to be left outside overnight in the paddock, joining up with a group of five others who will stay together until they are weaned later in the summer.

During this time she will become more adventurous gradually moving further away from her mother and naturally finding her place within the herd. This is also a time when she will learn a great deal about playing with others and establishing some manners within the pecking order.

This stage in her life is crucial to her overall development and when she will really begin to thrive and grow into an adolescent.  Now being of an age when the spring grass is long last at reach, this will aid her growth and development considerably as she continues to gets nourishment alongside the mare’s milk and feed.

This is also an important time for the stud team who will continue to monitor her development closely over the coming months. Foals tend to grow considerably in this period and naturally will increase their exercise around the paddocks. This can occasionally lead to conformation defects (see more here August 2016 Vet Forum) which can be limited at this stage with remedial farriery, veterinary care or with some good old fashioned restricted exercise. Any changes to a steady development at this stage is a good indicator that something is amiss.

Sacre Coeur (pictured below) is enjoying her time out at grass and despite having a pink nose, has not yet needed the sun cream due to the lack of sun!

We are also pleased to report that Sacre Coeur’s 2yo filly by Showcasing has now been named Lady in France and is in training with Karl Burke. Seemingly she is pleasing connections at home and has received a long range race entry in the Redcar Two Year old Trophy, we look forward to seeing her making her debut in due course.
